What a plumbing business needs from software

Plumbing work arrives as calls, many of them urgent. That shapes the shortlist.

We cover the broader HVAC-plus-plumbing tools in our HVAC guide. This page focuses on plumbers' size and budget tiers.

Solo plumber

If you work alone and mainly need to send estimates and invoices, you do not need a dispatch system. Joist lists Basics at $12/mo monthly ($8.34/mo billed annually, up to 5 documents per month), Pro at $17/mo (unlimited documents and clients) and Elite at $32/mo, with a 14-day trial and no credit card. Its page lists plumbing and electrical among the trades it serves. Joist says its free plan is no longer available. Joist pricing

ServiceM8 prices by jobs per month with unlimited users: Free (30 jobs), $29/mo (50 jobs), $79/mo (150 jobs), $149/mo (500 jobs). It lists scheduling, quoting, invoicing, payments and live staff locations. ServiceM8 pricing (US) Jobber Core ($49/mo, or $29/mo billed annually) has stronger client-facing quotes and automations in Connect ($139/mo).

2 to 5 plumbers

Housecall Pro is the best-known choice for this size. Basic has scheduling, dispatch, estimates, invoicing, payments with consumer financing, a price book and job costing. Essentials ($189/mo monthly, $149/mo annual, 5 users) adds routes, flat-rate pricing, checklists, GPS tracking, commissions and QuickBooks Online sync. Housecall Pro pricing

Workiz positions itself for plumbing, HVAC and electrical, and has a 7-day no-card trial, but all three plans are "Request pricing". Kickserv is cheaper ($60/mo for 5 users, 30-day trial) and lists scheduling, estimates, invoices and QuickBooks Online, with dispatch mapping from Run ($119/mo), but its pricing page lists no pricebook. Jobber's 5-user plans are Connect $199/mo and Grow $299/mo.

6+ plumbers

Service Fusion has unlimited users on all plans ($245, $382 and $627/mo monthly; $208, $325, $533 billed annually) and lists plumbing as an industry; at 10 users it is cheaper than Housecall Pro Max with extra users on list prices. FieldEdge (quote-based, no trial) and ServiceTitan (quote-based, per technician) are the larger-company options with a flat-rate pricebook, memberships and call-booking tools. Use our ServiceTitan comparison for the questions to ask.

What about QuoteIQ?

QuoteIQ lists plumbing among its industries and starts at $29.99/mo. For a solo plumber who mostly bids remodel and install jobs, its estimates with options, price book, invoicing and online payments can cover the basics. We would not choose it first for emergency dispatch work. We could not verify a flat-rate pricebook or dispatch board on its pricing page, and Housecall Pro lists both. QuoteIQ is our affiliate partner, so this is deliberate: if a tool is not the best fit we say so.

Before you pick

  1. Decide whether you need dispatch (more than one truck) or only quoting and billing.
  2. Check the price at your headcount for the next year, not today.
  3. Test a real call: customer request, estimate with parts, payment on site, invoice to QuickBooks.
  4. Check how you export your data and how the cancellation works.
