Quick verdict

Pool-only route business: start with Skimmer ($1.00 per pool, from $49/mo) because it is built for pool service and lists water-chemistry tools. Pool plus pest control, lawn or other routes: GorillaDesk ($49/mo per route, unlimited users). Pool service plus repairs, remodeling or other home services: a general tool like Jobber.

We cover QuoteIQ below because it lists pool service as an industry, but we do not recommend it as a first choice for a maintenance route; we could not verify any pool-specific chemistry features on its pages.

What pool service companies actually need

A pool route is not a one-off job business. It has repeating weekly visits, a tech who checks and records chemistry at each stop, and a customer who wants a report and an easy way to pay. When you compare software, rank these needs before price:

  1. Routes and recurring visits. Can you drag stops, handle skips and weather, and build tomorrow's route in minutes?
  2. Visit records. Chemistry readings, chemicals added, photos and notes at each stop, with a report that goes to the customer.
  3. Billing. Monthly billing on autopay, plus quotes for repairs and one-time work.
  4. Pricing basis. Per pool, per route or per user: the one that matches how you grow.

Skimmer: the pool-first option

Skimmer's Getting Started plan is $1.00 per serviced location per month and starts at $49/mo (49 locations). It lists unlimited technicians and admins, unlimited customers and visits, a route builder, one-time work orders, invoicing and online payments, a customer portal, service reports and emails, and a Heritage integration. Scaling Up ($2.00 per location, from $98/mo) adds quotes and estimates, job management, consumer financing (Sunbit), an LSI and dosing calculator (Orenda), a LaMotte integration, route optimization, recurring work orders, required checklist items, broadcast emails, unlimited service texts and live phone support. Add-ons include AI Phone ($99/mo) and a Marketing Suite ($150/mo). Skimmer pricing

At the listed rates, 100 pools is about $100/mo on Getting Started or $200/mo on Scaling Up (our arithmetic). That is cheap for small routes and rises steadily as you add pools.

GorillaDesk: the multi-route option

GorillaDesk charges per route (schedule), not per user: Basic $49/mo, Pro $99/mo, Growth $149/mo for the first route. Each additional route costs more, from +$30 to +$100/mo depending on the plan. Unlimited admin and crew users are included, setup is free, and the company will import your customer list for free (contacts, addresses, notes and balance; not past service history). Pro adds a customer portal, subscription billing through Stripe and Square, drive-time routing, QuickBooks Online sync and GPS device tracking. Growth adds map estimation tools and a sales pipeline. GorillaDesk pricing

It lists pool along with pest control and lawn care as its focus trades. See GorillaDesk vs Skimmer for cost examples.

General tools: Jobber, Housecall Pro, QuoteIQ

If pool service is one line of business among several, a general field-service tool can make sense. Jobber lists pool service as an industry and starts at $49/mo ($29/mo annual) for 1 user; its Connect plan adds client reminders, automatic payments and QuickBooks Online sync. It does not list chemistry tools. Housecall Pro is aimed more at HVAC, plumbing and cleaning according to its plan quiz. QuoteIQ lists pool service and pool contractor among its industries, has recurring jobs and billing from its $29.99/mo Essentials plan and chemical tracking on Pro, but that tracks pesticide and herbicide records, not water chemistry. QuoteIQ is a better fit if your pool business includes measuring, quoting and building work than if you run weekly maintenance routes.

Not on our list: Pool Brain is another pool-specific product. We could not verify its prices because its pricing page loads them through a calculator, so check its site directly if chemistry automation is your priority.

How to choose in three questions

  1. Do you only do pool service? If yes, try Skimmer first, then GorillaDesk.
  2. Do you have other route work (pest, lawn)? GorillaDesk keeps it in one system and prices by route.
  3. Do you sell repairs and renovations as much as maintenance? Look at Jobber or QuoteIQ and add a pool chemistry app if needed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best software for a small pool service route?
For a pool-only route, Skimmer is the pool-specific option with per-pool pricing from $49/mo. If you also service other route trades, GorillaDesk at $49/mo per route with unlimited users is the main alternative.
Is there free pool service software?
We found no major pool service platform with a free plan. Skimmer's pricing page offers the first month of Scaling Up free, and GorillaDesk offers a 14-day trial with no credit card.
Can I use Jobber for a pool business?
Yes. Jobber lists pool service as an industry and handles recurring visits, quotes, invoicing and payments, but its pricing page lists no pool chemistry tools.
How much does pool service software cost?
Published starting prices are about $49/mo for Skimmer (49 locations) and GorillaDesk (1 route), $49/mo for Jobber Core and $29.99/mo for QuoteIQ Essentials. Costs rise with pool count (Skimmer), route count (GorillaDesk) or user count (Jobber, QuoteIQ).
Does GorillaDesk work for pool companies?
GorillaDesk lists pool service among its trades and tracks chemical use records through its material tracking feature, but it does not advertise a water-chemistry calculator like Skimmer does.
Does QuoteIQ work for pool service?
QuoteIQ lists pool service as an industry and has recurring jobs and billing, but we could not verify chemistry features for water testing. It is better suited to quoting and building work than to weekly maintenance routes.
